BROOKLINE POLICE DEPARTMENT, MASSACHUSETTS

THE CHALLENGE
Brookline Police Department in Massachusetts operates in an old building in the Boston area and needed to record bookings conducted in the basement as well as interviews conducted in the investigations division. Their old VHS system in the booking area would run out of tape in the middle of the night on a weekend. Per agency policy, the tape needed to be changed by a detective who was called in on overtime to get the system up and running again. The system needed to be easy to use to prevent operator error and late night, weekend calls to an administrator.

THE SOLUTION
Through Cardinal Peak's CaseCracker remote client application, the booking officers have a way to initiate a recording over their network to the CaseCracker unit in the investigations area. With both booking room and interview room recordings, investigators are able to show exactly how the suspect looked and acted.

THE RESULTS
CaseCracker provided a simple start and stop tool for the booking officers and the recordings that the investigators need to present a full story in court. Installing CaseCracker cut costs by eliminating the need for a detective to change the tape and minimized operator error, resulting in more video recorded booking procedures.

"We never expected to find something as simple to use as CaseCracker. We use it constantly."
–Detective Larry Crapo, Brookline Police Department, Massachusetts

"Detectives have to deal with a lot of different things, so CaseCracker's ease of use has been the best feature so far."
